Any ice breaker activity must be fun and informative so both students enjoy and get to know each other as well as teacher getting to know them which is essential for future preparation.
Icebreaker using candies, is one of those fun encouraging activities specially for shy one regardless of the age. Now let’s learn the game
Purchase a few bags of candy before the class. Buy stickers for a cheaper alternative. For a fancier look, place them inside a bowl. Now ask students to take, up to three or any maximum amount you prefer. Here begins the interesting part; let them know it’s time to get to know each other more. For each candy they took, students tell one thing about themselves.
In case your ESL students are shy, prepare a list of questions and let them call a number for each candy. Make sure the question list is funny enough to make the ESL adults laugh if you want them to feel friendly in the class and open up to each other more.
For a better social interaction let them share candies or stickers with each other. This is step make our ice breaker activity super fun.
Do this ESL ice breaker activity with students of all ages. If possible, get to know a little about them beforehand so it’ll be easier to adjust the questions for being more open and fun.
Playing the game for a crowded classes it’s costly and time consuming. A suitable class size for sharing candies and information would be less than 10 students. Enjoy and have fun!
