Circle ESL game is a fun and engaging activity to play with ESL kids. Good thing is that the game is suitable for any class size and specially works well with large classes. and a better news is NO PREPARATION IS NEEDED
Teach new vocabularies before the ESL game begins. When you are happy that the majority of students are comfortable with all the words, lay them out on the floor. There must be good amount of space between the flashcards
To play ‘The Circle’ ESL game with your kindergarten kids first choose 3 to 5 students to stand up and hold hands to form a circle in the middle of class so they will be surrounded with flashcards. whisper one of the words to your seated ESL kids. The students then call out the flashcard and then circle has to move to position themselves around the correct flashcard your kindergarten children have called out.
The Circle is my favorite ESL game because I can play it in every kindergarten class regardless of their age. The young learners with the ages of 2 to 12 years old really like it a lot. It teaches them not only English but also a simple team work.
Usually the classroom in which adults and teenagers are learning doesn’t have enough space to move around and create a circle Also I didn’t see a lot of excitement in students’ face playing The Circle. But I believe students are not the same around the world so if you never try, you’ll never know
We need a circle for this game. So at least three kids are required. For larger classes you can have more kids in the circle but too many kids in one circle could be a bit hard to control when a few kids are pulling in and out the circle. Anyway Have fun with the Circle ESL game!
