Fruit Paint is one of the best game to encourage kids for learning not only different fruit but also reviewing colors. this game is very effective for shy ESL students to speak out colors and fruits. It requires preparation for printing the fruit pictures. You can choose any fruit related to the ESL lesson, print them in small size, enough for each ESL kids.
After teaching different fruits, ask students what fruit they want. Encourage them to respond with “I want an apple” or “Give me a pear please”. This might take a while if there are many kids in the class don’t forget the help of assistant teacher.
Next ask kids what color is their fruit. It’s okay if they said brown for their apple later you have the opportunity to ask if brown apples are real.
Now it’s time for fruit paint. I’ve out markers, crayon or anything else to fill in the shape with colors. After all kids got their crayon and fruit count to ten and shout “stop” or any magical word for them to stop painting.
The game is done by now but it’s possible to add other challenges such as call their fruit/color to bring it to you and etc.
It’s a painting based game which any kids from 2 years old above love to do no matter how good they are in painting. But might not be a fun things to do for a 15 year old teenager or older students unless any teacher comes up with a suitable twist in this case leave a in the comment and share your idea with us.
Any class size suits playing this game but for an ESL class with more than 15 kids you definitely need an assistant to give out the prints and tools to paint. Have fun!
