Today’s ESL activity is one of the best for practicing sentence structure and order of adjectives. The game is super simple and no preparation is required. With just a whiteboard and a marker, we are good to go. This makes a perfect activity for online classes as well.
First off, come up with a word that everybody knows and write it on the board. For the teaching order of multiple adjectives, it would be better to write the word on the left side of the board.
For teaching sentence structure write the word in the middle so students would know there are words for the left and right side.
Now the game is on. Have students write (or say out loud) a word with its position (either after or before play). and that’s it.
The game is not much competitive. But it engages students and you definitely will see them think hard to get it right
I love this game because we can play and learn about sentence structure or order of multiple adjectives with this game regardless of how many students are in the class. We’ve played in 1-on-1 classes as well as 40-student ESL classes
“Fill in With Me” has no limitation to the age. As long as students are familiar with the target language or grammar, they are ready to play today’s ESL activity
Have fun teaching grammars using “Fill In with me”. You can also use this activity to not only teach but also to review sentence structure and order of adjectives.
