Classroom train is one of the most engaging ESL activity for kids under 12. While playing the game it’s very likely that all the students follow and repeat the targeted objects in English with your specified sentences because they are having fun.
It is more exciting to use this game as an activity to introduce new words(related to objects) rather than playing for review the words.
For the first step put them around he object or using Blu Tack to stick on the object. For example stick the chair flashcard to chair, put the table flashcard on the table. But make sure they don’t see the picture. Then ask “what is this”. older kids might guess right specially after one flashcard is revealed. Then one by one teach them each object and reveal the flashcard.
Now sho “choo Choo” as you invite them to line up for creating a train. While chanting “Walking Walking… Walking Walking” get to an object. Now tap or point while chanting the name of object. Next move on to other objects that you’ve taught. If the kids know them well try to use some sentences such as “it’s a clock” . At last collect the flashcards and bring the kids back to their seats.
Play the classroom train for kids under 12 years old. It’s a fun way for learning objects in the classroom or learning any objects in English (but must be presented in the class you teach)
As big as teacher can handle a train to not fall apart. Size of a room is important as well to to avoid kids bumping into each other. Enjoy this fun and engaging esl activity!
