Circle dance is a super fun ESL game using flashcard that suits any topic, level, or age. Besides, teachers can use it to practice asking and answering questions. Due to simplicity, students love the activity a lot. It is even more interesting when teachers use props.
Place flashcards on the floor close to each other (better to have one for each student). Have students make a circle around the flashcards but turn the other way.
Let them know when you sing or play the music they should start dancing. When the music stops everybody turns around, grabs a flashcard, and say it out loud as fast as they can
Depends on what you teach and students’ level, they either can say the vocabulary, a sentence, question, or any target language. This ESL game is as simple as it sounds.
There is a twist for practicing a short conversation (question and answer). Leave fewer flashcards on the floor and let them try the game. There will be one or more students without a card. So now teachers can encourage them to ask the target question and those with flashcards answer it.
A good thing about Circle Dance ESL game is the number of students doesn’t matter. If the flashcards are enough for the whole class then bring everyone to play together otherwise create different groups for joining the game separately.
There is no age limit here. If your ESL adult students are willing to dance and doing some extra movements then the Circle Dance ESL game is a perfect choice for any topic as well.
