It is better for students to sit in a circle. However lining up will be fine as well. Whisper the word in a student’s ear only once. The student has to whisper whatever he/she understood in the ear of the student sitting next in the circle and same goes for rest of them. The last student has to say the word aloud after which the teacher will share the original word. For next rounds let others to be the last one as well
Instead of last person shouting the word, teachers can put a flashcard by the wall or on the table so that the last student goes to touch the right flashcard. If they are intermediate or advanced level, use sentences rather than words.
This game gets more interesting and funny when they didn’t get the word right and each student make up its own version to whisper the word
This is a suitable game for all ages. However kids under 5 years old might need a bit of practice and teacher’s help for whispering the words. sometimes they just say it out loud and you can simply remind them as well as showing them what whispering is.
Chinese Whisper suits classes with less than 10 students otherwise it’ll take along time for the words to reach the last student and it’s very likely to be modified completely.
