Have students sit in a circle to play a fun game for future tense (will, be going to, present continuous). This game doesn’t need any preparation. Just get a bag with preferred size and you’re good to go
Let’s begin the fun by giving an empty bag to an ESL student. He needs to look inside and think of an object that would fit in the bag
Have students sit in a circle, and give an empty bag or basket to someone. The student must look inside and think of an object that would fit in the bag. He or she then asks the person to the right, “Why do you have a ________ in your bag?” That person answers using future tense (be going to or will) and his plan for the object. For example. “Why do you have an iPad in your bag?”
“I am going to sell it to the teacher.” If a person cannot answer a question appropriately or cannot think of a use for the object, he is out of the game and must leave the circle. Continue going around the circle until only one person, the winner, remains.
For adults and teenagers, this is going to be a super fun game. While young learners might have a hard time coming up with sentences, it would still encourage them to have a short conversation. Minimum age to play the game for future tense would be 5 years old
Basically there is no limit for number of students if the time is enough. a simple exchange can lead up to 1 minute per person so probably for crowded classes (over 20 students) is not recommended to play this game for future tense
Hope your class enjoys this game. Don’t forget to check out other games for future tense on the ESL Game page. Let us know how your students like today’s ESL game.
