Never shout “Attention please” again. Call and responses help a lot to instantly get attention in the classroom. This technique come very handy to immediately get students’ respond and focus.
Teach them at the beginning of school day or any ESL courses and try it a few times so that every ESL student memorizes how to respond. Don’t worry these call and responses are easy to learn
T: L-I-S … S: T-E-N! (repeat again)
T: Now together … S: Listen
T:1 2 3 eyes on me … S: (looking at the teacher)
T: 4 5 6 zip your lips… S: (zipping)
T: And lion bear (walk toward noisy student like a bear)… S: Snores on! … T: (Stop walking snores)
T: And a lion (walk to a student showing your claws… S: Snores on!
T: And students (sit down nicely and show the quiet sign) … S: hushhhh!
T: Banana (fingertips together) … S: Peal (fingertips together, peeling banana)
T: Banana … S: Split (split from fingertips then open fingers)
T&S: Banana now we eat (cover your mouth with the hand)
T: Freeze! Everybody clap your hands … S: (clapping)
T: Freeze! Everybody stomp your feet … S: (stomping)
T: Freeze! Everybody eyes on me … S: (looking at the teacher)
T: Hocus pocus … S: Time to focus
T: Macaroni and cheese … S: Everybody freeze
T: Kool backward … S: Look forward
T: Are you ready, kids? … S: Aye Aye, Captain
T: Flat tire … S: Shhh Shhh
T:1 2 3 eyes on me … S: 1 2 3 eyes on you
T: Clap time 3 2 1 … S: (clapping fast) … T: Stop!

T: Zip Zip (zipping mouth) … S: We are zipped (zipping mouth)
